Bonfire Night

Bonfire night is one of those holidays that I wish the United States would embrace. It always seems so fun and exciting when I watch people's vlogs or read their blog posts about Bonfire Night.

Since I thought the holiday was so awesome and exciting, I thought I should research it some as I didn't know the history. The following is what I've been able to gather from the Internet.

Guy Fawkes was apart of the Gunpowder Plot. The aim was to use explosives in order to harm or kill King James I. This plan was carried out on November 5, 1605. However, Guy Fawkes was found and arrested while guarding said explosives. In celebration of King James I not dying, people lit bonfires all around the city of London. Later this day was made into a public day of thanksgiving for the failure of Guy Fawkes and his accomplices. Also in case you were wondering what happened to Guy Fawkes, he and three of his seven companions were taken from the Tower to be hanged and quartered.

Today, people (mainly in England) still celebrate this. Most celebrations include: burning a effigy of Fawkes, firework displays, singing songs, food, and of course bonfires!

So whether you're in England, the USA, or anywhere else in the world have a wonderful Bonfire Night and be safe!
